History

The White Russian is a younger cousin to the Black Russian, first appearing in print in the 1965 Oakland Tribune. It’s essentially the same drink with cream floated on top — a small addition that completely changes the cocktail’s personality. The drink remained a quiet menu staple for decades until 1998, when the Coen brothers’ cult-classic film The Big Lebowski sent it back into the spotlight thanks to Jeff Bridges’ character, “The Dude.” Today it remains a forever-cool sipper, especially in this MurLarkey version that swaps traditional vodka for coffee whiskey for added depth.
