Did someone say whiskey? If the simple mention of whiskey is enough to grab your attention, you’re not alone. Bartender Megan Shaff’s love for craft spirits has translated into her spending her days surrounded by 2,687 (and counting) bottles of the finest whiskies. Working for Washington, DC’s highly regarded Jack Rose Dining Saloon, the largest whiskey bar in the Western Hemisphere, Megan’s “office” is the envy of many.
Megan has been bartending for 12 years, getting her start in California and later moving to the east coast. She spent a few years slinging in the District, but then she decided it was time for a change. She packed up her things and moved to the US Virgin Islands to serve up rum cocktails and work on her tan. Not a bad gig, huh?
It was whiskey that brought her back to the states though. The offer she received from Jack Rose was one she couldn’t refuse and ultimately made it an easy decision. Megan’s skills behind the bar make her an expert cocktail creator, but it’s her knowledge about the spirits she works with that make her even more impressive. The patrons lucky enough to have her as their bartender find that Megan is not only skilled in “mixology”, but she is also dedicated to educating the masses about the amazing libation known as whiskey!
Through a long friendship with the MurLarkey team, Megan herself became a member of the team as MurLarkey Brand Ambassador in 2016. Her knowledge and love of whiskey made the partnership a clear decision.
2 oz. MurLarkey Justice Whiskey
1 oz. dry vermouth
2 large dashes of orange bitters
.5 oz simple syrup
Chill coupe glass
Stir cocktail till thoroughly chilled.
Strain into coupe.
Express orange peel over cocktail and sink peel.
Garnish with orange peel.

Arlington – whether it’s Texas or Virginia – is a city that Aaron Irwin has called home. A native of Arlington, Texas, Aaron was just 15 years old when he began working in the restaurant industry. That was his first taste of being in the hospitality business and it left a lasting impression.
Aaron went on to attend the University of North Texas, getting his Associates Degree in Restaurant and Hospitality Management. He has used his expertise to open several restaurants in the Dallas, Washington DC and Northern Virginia areas, which range from fast food to upscale, fine dining locales.
After getting his start in the south, Aaron moved to the Washington, DC area where he has now been for 15 years. If you have ever had a drink at Courthaus Social in Arlington, VA you have Aaron to thank for the incredible selection. As the Beverage Director and Bar Manager for what’s been dubbed the American Beer Garden, Aaron gets to share his love of craft and classic beverages with an array of guests every night. After getting into the bartending profession by accident, Aaron has found that experimenting with different spirits and ingredients to see what can be created from each flavor is his favorite part about the bar industry.
Aaron himself tends to drink whiskies and Bourbons, and when introduced to MurLarkey he took advantage of the opportunity to create something new.
1.5oz MurLarkey Divine Clarity
.5 simple syrup
2oz grapefruit juice
2 dash Peychauds bitters
Lemon twist garnish
Add Clarity, syrup, juice and bitters to shaker
Shake until well blended
Pour into glass and garnish with lemon twist
