History:
The Manhattan is one of the oldest and most storied cocktails in American history. It is widely believed to have been created in the early 1870s at the Manhattan Club in New York City, though the exact origin is debated. One popular account credits Dr. Iain Marshall with crafting it for a banquet hosted by Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph Churchill, mother of Winston Churchill). By the 1880s, the recipe had spread across the country and became a cornerstone of classic cocktail culture.
